Elizabeth and Quentin Parker Bursaries by Thrift Shops for Nova

Award Amount: $1,000 (number of bursaries 3 in the Fall semester and 3 in the Winter semester)

Distribution of Funds: Fall and Winter semesters
The first Thrift Shop for Nova, a non-for-profit organization, was founded in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in 2004 and has since grown to six outlets on the West Island. Their mission is to subsidize health and social service by donating their proceeds to NOVA West Island. To complete their mission, they rely on a large network of volunteers.
The board of directors of the Thrift Shops for Nova would like to recognize the continued hard work of one of the founding members, Elizabeth Parker and her husband Quentin by creating bursaries in support of students enrolled in a Nursing program at John Abbott College.

Fakhri Monazami Razavynia Memorial Scholarship

To honour the memory of her beloved mother Fakhri Monazami Razavynia and her contribution to society, Dr. Razieh Razavynia is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a serious and engaged Dental Hygiene student who has shown perseverance and determination in the pursuit of her education objectives.

- Must be a full-time student registered in their second or third year of the Dental Hygiene program
- Be in good academic standing
- Must demonstrate financial need to continue their studies
Preference will be given to a female student of Iranian background.
George Springate Memorial Scholarship

Distribution of Funds: Winter semester
Established to honour the memory of George Springate, who was a unique Quebecer and Canadian. A former City of Montreal police officer and Montreal Alouettes 1970 Grey Cup champion football player, he co-founded the Police Technology program at John Abbott College in 1973. During his 33 years there, the fluently bilingual Mr. Springate was a highly respected law professor, mentor and friend to countless students and faculty.

FOR STUDENTS IN POLICE TECHNOLOGY ONLY
- The scholarship will be given annually to a third-year Police Technology student who best illustrates their kind, supportive and unselfish desire to help their fellow students in need without any expectations in return
Gordon Information Technology Bursary

Distribution of Funds: Fall semester
This bursary is to provide financial assistance to a full-time or deemed full-time student who is registered in the Computer Science Technology program and who has demonstrated financial need to continue their studies.

FOR STUDENTS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ONLY
- Must be a full-time or deemed full-time student registered in the Computer Science Technology program
- Must be in good academic standing
- Must demonstrate financial need to continue their studies
- Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Students must write a letter of introduction outlining their interest in computer science. The letter should also describe any challenges or obstacles they are facing or have faced in the pursuit of their education as well as how this bursary will help.

Created by the Montreal Lakeshore University Women’s Club in 2016 to support women from the West Island of Montreal who are studying in a Technical program.

The New Student Bursary in Memory of George Springate will be awarded annually in the fall semester to provide financial assistance to a first-year student of the Police Technology Program who exemplifies George’s values and ethics.

Nicholas Samios Memorial Bursary

Distribution of Funds: Fall semester
This bursary was established by Catherine and Mary Samios to honour the memory of their beloved brother, Nicholas Samios, who started his career in computer engineering and had a life-long passion for taking things apart to see how they worked.
With this agreement, the Nicholas Samios Bursary, will provide financial assistance to a full-time or deemed full-time student enrolled in a career program.

- Must be a full-time student registered in a career program at John Abbott College; preference will be given to student enrolled in the Engineering Technologies program;
- Good academic standing, with a minimum average of 70%;
- Must demonstrate financial need to continue their studies.
The Oka and Grégoire Foundation Bursaries

Award Amount: $1,800 per year for a maximum of 3 years
The Oka and Grégoire Foundation Bursary provides funding to support full-time or deemed full-time students in the Nursing program who need financial assistance in order to continue their studies.
